I just stumbled on this video even though it’s been around for more than a year. Japanese- Jewish American, Sarah Kay recites her poem “B” at a TED Conference and got everyone including me emotional. If you love the video, now you can get the book.
Inspiration
Vicky and Sam
A sappy Hollywood romance gets Meta when scriptwriters discover an unexpected power.
After Vicky’s eyes meet Sam’s across aisles of DVDs in the video store, it’s only right that they should bump hips and—after a whirlwind romance of riverside walks and cute notes—fall in love. That’s the Hollywood formula. Predictable, functional, and stuffed to bursting with gooey mush, it pulls audience heart strings every time.
But not everything is as simple as first it seems.
How a book is designed from scratch.
Wicked. It’s pure inspiration to see how committed designers work & when hard work pays off. The designer who designed this annual report took 2 months worth of time to do quality research & thought process. (yes, !!!) He studied typography & the grid system and deem them as Math. A customized grid system & infographics with a twitch of perfection to fit all the information in nicely on to a 210 x 297 two dimensional space. I was just given a corporate book to scribble design on and hopefully I can pull off a beautiful piece of creation at the end of the day as well.
The unseen became visible
KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.
A must watch documentary for everyone. ‘Where you live shouldn’t determine whether you live.’
The notebook that became a love letter
Field Notes: Red Blooded from Coudal Partners on Vimeo.
“The video has been created to promote the Red Blooded notebook which has been recently added to the Field Notes standard product line. The notebook that becomes a love letter: a further proof that life, love and commerce can intersect nicely.”
Boys, its time to ditch those sweet nothings. Girls, its time to send your bfs to a handicraft bootcamp before the next Valentine’s day arrives. Anyhow, adorable & beautiful promo video done by Field Notes.
Sale Of The Season
Swedish winters require a rugged car. Volkswagen made a “winter-adjusted offer for a winter-adjusted car” to stir interest in its 4Motion four-wheel-drive feature. DDB Sweden put the car on a billboard plunked in the middle of a frozen Swedish lake. Once the ice melted and the billboard sank, the deal was over.
TV, print, in-store and banner ads all highlighted the billboard, which was streamed live so people could follow its Titanic-like destiny. A contest to guess when it would sink was a natural fit for social media. The billboard submerged April 14, after two months of live entertainment. Sales rose 38% in the first quarter of 2011 from the year-earlier period.
Music Is Fashion
The iTunes-like StarHub Music Store in Singapore combined music and fashion — two ways young people often express themselves — by attaching radio-frequency identification chips to clothing in stores. When a piece of clothing was taken into a fitting room, it triggered an RFID speaker to play a music track in the dressing room matching the garment’s style. Then a text was sent to the shopper’s phone, offering a free download of the song he or she was listening to.
The music and corresponding clothing were divided into 16 genres, including hip-hop, punk, rock pop, folk, ballads and reggae, totaling more than 10,000 songs. The RFID chips were used in eight fashion brands in 42 stores. The effort by StarHub and DDB Singapore had an average click-through of 84% and boosted paid music downloads by 21%.
Tweet For Manual
Tok&Stok, an Ikea-like retailer in Brazil, used Twitter manuals to demonstrate how easy its furniture is to assemble by shortening instructions to a series of 140-character tweets. Customers who bought a piece of furniture just had to find the corresponding hashtag, displayed on stickers on the furniture and product boxes. Besides driving home the point that this furniture is easy to assemble, the Twitter manuals caught the attention of a younger audience buying their first items of furniture.
Tok&Stok and DDB Brasil also took the easy-to-assemble message to much odder media, like a Tok&Stock business card that turns into a little paper chair if you follow the instructions. And a puzzle, with the same number of pieces as the item purchased, that shows you how to “make” the furniture as you put together the puzzle.
Spiltscreen: A Love Story
This is the winning entry for the Nokia Shorts 2011. It was shot entirely on the pocket-sized Nokia N8 on a budget of $5,000. Love the idea! Love the story! Love the film! Brilliant work JW Griffiths.

Everything Is Media
Noah Brier recently shared a fantastic presentation around the statement that everything is media. One of his slides drives home the point that iteration is essential to the future of marketing:
Try things and iterate. Face it, you’re not as good at predicting success as you think you are. It is well-established that things become popular mostly randomly. Sure you can spend against but even that isn’t a guarantee.
“Iterate” is just a jargony way of saying do more of what works and less of what doesn’t — and to do that, you need data. Check out this slide…
The Most Beautiful Seatbelt Advocacy Commercial Ever
No verbiage, no dialogue, no blood. Yet incredibly effective.
And it is beautiful and classy.
The Majestic Plastic Bag
Nine minutes long but every bit enthralling, this DDB-created mockumentary will appeal to every greenie and pro-tote bagger. Narrated by Jeremy Irons, the video depicts the life cycle of the plastic bag, from grocery store to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. An exceptionally beautiful piece of work for Southern California’s coastal environmental group, Heal the Bay.
Uniqlo Lucky Switch
Japanese clothing retailer, Uniqlo and its agency, local Tokyo shop IMG SRC, picked up the Grande Innova Lotus for Uniqlo’s “Lucky Switch” campaign, which embeds a branded widget on blogs and websites, converting every image on any site into Uniqlo lucky tickets as soon as the user flips the virtual switch. Watched and be awed.
Hot Chicks at Comic Convention
And to think comics were meant for kids. It’s no wonder that balding men in their 40s sporting ponytails are still into them.
Thank God for eBook Readers

What’s the possibilities that one can locate his/her book??
Space Saving Furniture
For those who live in tiny HDBs and harbour thoughts of upgrading to a good class bungalow so that you could have oodles of space to cavort about, here’s a solution: Space-saving furniture by Resource Furniture.
I must say they make stylish, clever and useful furniture. It really does save space! And is so apt for Mickey Mouse apartments that cost S$1,500 per sq ft. Now if only the price would save you as much as well. When you need to “request a quote” to know the price, it only means the price tag is leaning towards Good Class Bungalowers.

Wonder Woman Gets A Makeover
I hear protests and howls from miles away. All of us creatures of habit would prefer Wonder Woman to stick to her bustier and hooker boots. Maybe, we just missed Linda Carter. But it’s official, DC Comics have given Wonder Woman pants and a biker jacket before she turns 70.

Ouroboros — The First Living Thing In The Universe
The Ouroboros or Uroborus is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circle.
The Ouroboros often represents self-reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, the eternal return, and other things perceived as cycles that begin anew as soon as they end (compare with phoenix).
It can also represent the idea of primordial unity related to something existing in or persisting from the beginning with such force or qualities it cannot be extinguished. The ouroboros has been important in religious and mythological symbolism, but has also been frequently used in alchemical illustrations, where it symbolizes the circular nature of the alchemist’s opus. It is also often associated with Gnosticism, and Hermeticism. <Read more…>
Opera Company of Philadelphia “Flash Brindisi” at Reading Terminal Market
Alright, flash mobs are getting a little contrived and “oh-no-not-again”, especially those dancing ones with bad choreography. But this by Philadelphia Opera Company is pretty cool. Check it out.
