A tribute video to Singapore’s “First Lady Of Entertainment”.
Nona Asiah or better known as Mak Nona is a Malay singer in the 60s and 70s who often sang songs on Malaysian radio.
Born in Singapore in November 1928, Mak Nona’s first two songs — Ciumku Lagi (adapted from “Besame Mucho”) and Bunga Sakura — were recorded onto a black plate and received great reponse. After which, Mak Nona was hired to be the singer for MFP’s films (later known as Cathay-Keris).
Mak Nona was recently awarded the Cultural Medallion Award, which is the highest awards granted to Singapore artists.
